The Cobalt Drill Bit provides long-lasting performance when drilling stainless steel. This extended lifetime results from a cobalt alloy content of 5% and fully ground HSS (high-speed steel), which provides excellent surface quality, wear resistance and heat protection. Equipped with two cutters and two flutes, chips are removed quickly to make the bit last even longer. This drill bit works with alloyed and non-alloyed steel, stainless steel, cast iron, cast steel and acid- and heat-resistant steels. These bits also are useful for general-application drilling in high-carbon steel and light-gauge metal, as well as wood and plastic. The split-point tip has been engineered for no-skate starts and clean, accurate holes. The three-flat shank design on bits 3/16 In. and larger promotes better gripping and guards against slipping.
