What is Preston Hardware’s privacy and security statement?

What information do we collect?

  • We collect information from you when you register on the site, place an order, enter a contest or sweepstakes, respond to a survey or communication such as e-mail, or participate in another site feature.
  • When ordering or registering, we may ask you for your name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number, credit card information or other information. You may, however, visit our site anonymously.

We may use the information we collect from you when you register, purchase products, enter a contest or promotion, respond to a survey or marketing communication, surf the website, or use certain other site features in the following ways:

  • To personalize your site experience and to allow us to deliver the type of content and product offerings in which you are most interested.
  • To allow us to better service you in responding to your customer service requests.

How do we protect visitor information?

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. When you place orders or access your personal information, we offer the use of a secure server. All sensitive/credit information you supply is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our databases to be only accessed as stated above.

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. For instance, we use cookies to help us remember and process the items in your shopping cart. They are also used to help us understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide you with improved services. Do we disclose the information we collect to outside parties?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information unless we provide you with advance notice, except as described below. The term “outside parties” does not include Preston Hardware. It also does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

How can you opt-out, remove or modify information you have provided to us?

To modify your e-mail subscriptions, please let us know by modifying your preferences in the “My Account” section. Please note that due to email production schedules you may receive any emails already in production.

To delete all of your online account information from our database, sign into the “My Account” section of our site and remove your shipping addresses, billing addresses & payment information. Please note that we may maintain information about an individual sales transaction in order to service that transaction and for record keeping.

Third party links

In an attempt to provide you with increased value, we may include third party links on our site. These linked sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these linked sites (including if a specific link does not work).

What are the terms and conditions related to the use of your gift cards?

Gift cards are valid toward purchases of merchandise at Preston Hardware, in-store only. Gift cards carry no implied warranties and are not credit or debit cards. Gift cards cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash, credit, or payment on any credit or loan account or for purchases outside Preston Hardware’s store (e.g., over telephone or online).

Gift cards cannot be used for online orders, phone or any gift card purchases. Returns for purchases made with this card are subject to our Returns’ Policy and eligible refunds will be made by Store Credit. Lost, stolen, or damaged gift cards will not be cancelled and replaced without required proof of purchase. Except as required by law, gift cards purchased with cash will not be replaced. Contact our Customer Service Department for more information.

Do you provide Material Safety Data Sheets?

As required, Preston Hardware maintains and provides Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to customers and employees upon request. To obtain an MSDS, please contact Customer Service for assistance. Please provide the product name, manufacturer name and product name, UPC or part number.

Can you special order products for me that are not in stock?

Yes, in addition to the 100,000 products available in-store and online, we also offer products through our special-order services. Please contact Customer Service for more information.

Damaged Items and Shortage Claims

Please report damaged or missing items within 3 days of delivery by calling (613) 230-7166 ext. 366.

When will my backorder arrive?

Backordered items are those which our suppliers are unable to predict when they will have more in stock, but as soon as they do, we will be able to ship the item to you.

Order Cancellation

Can I cancel my order online?

At this time, you can’t cancel individual products or an order through online cancellation. Please contact our Customer Service department for all return inquiries. Please refer to our current return policy for details.

Returns & Exchanges

Can I return an item without a receipt?

Returns made without a receipt may be accepted at Preston Hardware’s discretion. In such an event, a 25% restocking fee may apply and the amount will be refunded as a store credit or gift card. 

Your name, address and phone number will be required as well as valid government identification prior to accepting merchandise for return without a receipt. 

Return Policy

Customers can return items purchased in-store or online in-person at Preston Hardware.   

Preston Hardware will gladly accept any unused regularly stocked merchandise for refund or exchange within 90 days of purchase. Simply return the complete product to us in its clean original packaging accompanied by the original receipt. Returns made with the original receipt will be refunded by the original method of payment. Returns made without a receipt may be accepted at Preston Hardware’s discretion. In such an event, a 25% restocking fee may apply and the amount will be refunded as a store credit or gift card. 

Your name, address and phone number will be required as well as valid government identification prior to accepting merchandise for return without a receipt. 

We regret that cut materials, tinted paint or stain, hygienic products (toilet seats, masks, gloves etc.) and special-order merchandise are not returnable. 

We regret that we cannot and do not accept items for Return and/or Exchange under the following circumstances. 

  • More than 90 days after the Sale.
  • On “Special Order” item(s).
  • Clearance items or transactions marked “Final Sale.”
  • Any bulk material(s) – including, but not limited to, chain, cables and cord, pipe or carpeting – that have been cut.
  • Paint or stain that has been tinted, coloured or somehow modified.
  • Damages not attributable to a Manufacturer Defect or other condition to which a Manufacturer’s Warranty would normally apply.
  • Items damaged, soiled or rendered unfit for re-sale due to:
    • uses or applications for which they were not designed or intended 
    • damaged or destroyed under any conditions or in uses, whether accidentally or intentionally, through neglect, negligence, acts of nature, in-transport, or other events that are not considered “normal use” 
    • having been modified for any reason outside reasonable and prescribed methods for installation and/or use as per the Manufacturer’s instructions. 

Returns with an Original Sales Receipt within 90 Days of Purchase. 

  • Any purchase made by credit card will be refunded to the original credit card. 
  • Any purchase made by cash will be refunded in cash; any purchase made by debit card will be refunded to the original debit card. 
  • Any purchase made by a cheque that has cleared the 15-day waiting period will be refunded in cash. 
  • Any purchase made by a cheque that has not cleared the 15-day waiting period may be refunded as a Store Credit. 
  • Any purchase made by using a store Gift Card will be refunded in the form of a store Gift Card. 

 Refunds may take several days as they are subject to processing times at your financial institution.

Shipping & Delivery

Does Preston Hardware ship outside of Canada?

At this time, Preston Hardware does not ship outside of Canada. 

When will my order be delivered?

Order-filling and lead times for online orders may vary depending upon the size of the order as well as seasonal changes in backlog of stock. Lead times should be discussed with our sales staff when placing your order if you have special requests. 

Preston Hardware will do their best to deliver all orders in a timely manner. Our lead times are typically 3-5 Business Days. We ask that you place your order by 3 p.m. for next day delivery. 

Where do I go to collect my pick-up order?

Once you have received an email confirming that your order is ready for pick-up, proceed to the store with your order number and photo ID. Follow the signs in the parking lot to the designated pick-up parking spots. To notify that you have arrived, follow the instructions on the parking spot sign, and an associate will bring your order to you. 

What are the benefits of ordering items online and picking up in store at Preston Hardware?

In-store pick-up and curbside pick-up allow you to place an order online and pick up at the store, saving you the regular shipping fees. It might also be a more convenient option for those who aren’t home during the day to accept packages or those who want to receive their items faster. Preston Hardware will hold your order for a minimum of five days from the time you receive a Pick-Up Notification instore or curbside. Orders not claimed after that will be available based on the product type and availability. 

You can also select a pick-up date that is convenient for you — the day you place your order or up to 6 days later. If you need to reschedule, you can also change your pick-up date online. 

Shipping & Delivery

Shipping Policy

Preston Hardware offers free local shipping within Ottawa for all orders under 25lbs (east-west from Kanata to Orleans and north-south from Gatineau to Manotick) on selected items throughout the store. Additional charges will apply for deliveries over 25lbs and outside our service area.

International Shipping

Do you ship outside of Canada?

At this time, Preston Hardware does not ship outside of Canada.

Do I need to be home for the delivery?

No, you do not need to be home when your item is delivered. All shipments are delivered as No Signature Required (NSR) so the carrier will leave the shipment at a safe location at the front door, porch or driveway.

Curbside pick-up & in-store pick-up

We are committed to the health and safety of our customers and associates. Customers can collect their orders at the in-store service desk or opt for contactless curbside pick-up and an associate will bring your order to your vehicle. 

Preston Hardware’s curbside pick-up option is a convenient way to place an order online and pick up your item(s) at our Preston Street location. This feature saves you shipping fees, but also limits store traffic and increases social distancing. When you arrive at the store, park in the designated pick-up area and follow the instructions listed on the signage for a contactless pick-up experience. 

Simply follow these easy steps: 

  1. Add item(s) to your cart on prestonhardware.com
  2. From your cart, select the “Pick Up In-Store” option
  3. You will receive an initial Order Received email acknowledging receipt of your order, but please wait until you receive a notification email advising that your order is ready for pick-up before heading to our store. 
  4. Please make sure to have your order number and photo ID easily accessible when you are on-site to pick-up your order. The person picking up the order must be the same person who placed the order or the person entered as an Alternate Pick-Up Person at the time the order was placed. Your photo ID must match one of these two names. Follow the signs in the parking lot to the designated pick-up area. 
  5. Remain inside your vehicle and open your trunk. One of our associates will bring your order to your vehicle and place in your trunk. 

Curbside pick-up is valid only: 

During store business hours, Monday -Saturday. Please confirm store hours prior to pick-up.

Curbside pick-up is not available on statutory/civic holidays. 

How will I know when my order is ready for pick-up?

You will receive an initial “Order Received” email acknowledging receipt of your order, but wait until you receive a notification email advising that your order is ready for pick-up before heading over to our store. You will need the order number and photo ID to pick up the order. If you selected an Alternate Pick-Up Person, they will also need the order number and photo ID.  

What happens if the product I ordered is on back order?

When an in-stock item becomes unavailable after you have placed an order, the customer will receive an email notification that the item is on backorder. Your item will ship as soon as it becomes available and you will not be charged until the item ships. If you choose to cancel your backordered product, please contact Customer Service.

Can I refuse a package if it is damaged?

Will Preston Hardware hook up my new appliance?

No, Preston Hardware does not offer services related to hooking up appliances.

Price Matching/Guarantees

Preston Hardware Price Guarantee

If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from a local retailer’s store or website, Preston Hardware will match the price. Prices for online items will be matched to localized online prices if available. A competitor’s product must be in-stock and available to ship for online items, at the time the price match is being requested. Price matches apply only to the price of a product and excludes taxes, delivery/shipping fees. Some exceptions may apply. 

In-Store: 

  • At the time of checkout, present details of the local competitor’s pricing (website, flyer, printout, or photo) to a Preston Hardware associate, during the competitor’s offer period. 
  • For competitor items advertised online, a complete web address of the product page must be presented. 
  • We will confirm the product qualifies for our Price Guarantee.

  • Before making your online purchase, please contact Customer Support to request a price match 
  • The following details will be required: 
    • Brand name 
    • Model number

Policies

Return Policy Exceptions

Some Special-Order returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee unless otherwise stated. Preston Hardware reserves the right to not accept non-stocking special orders. Cancellations may also be subject to a 25% restocking fee. Freight and/or shipping charges are non-refundable.

Gift cards, gift certificates and store credit cannot be exchanged or returned for cash or credit.

Lawn tractors, lawn mowers, snow throwers, gas powered equipment, power tools, shop vacuums, hand tools and BBQ’s will be repaired, if possible, in accordance with manufacturer’s warranty through a manufacturer authorized service contractor.

We do not accept returns on the following:

  • Custom products: No returns.
  • Custom-tinted paint department products: No returns.
  • Standby Generators: No returns.
  • Clearance and Discontinued items: No returns or refunds. These sale items are final.

Other Terms and Conditions

Preston Hardware reserves the right to request valid identification prior to accepting merchandise for a return.

Preston Hardware reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason.

Preston Hardware will only accept the return of merchandise purchased from Preston Hardware store or prestonhardware.com.
